Shimla-born,
Kinnaur-rooted

Varun Chauva was born and brought up in Shimla, but his roots reach deeper — into the valleys of Kinnaur, where culture, tradition, and an ancient relationship with the mountains shaped who he is. It is to those mountains he returns, again and again, to find the stories worth telling.

He came to filmmaking not through a straight road, but through football, law, and the stillness of quarantine — a path that taught him to observe before he ever picked up a camera. Trained through the GreenHub Documentary Filmmaking Fellowship in the Western Himalayas, he directs, shoots, and edits every frame himself.

Khangba
/ kḱaŋ·ba / · Upper Kinnauri Language
In the tongue of Upper Kinnaur, Khangba simply means Home. Every story we tell is an act of returning — to the mountains, to memory, to what endures.
